2025 LZJTU International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teachers, facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China. Lanzhou Jiaotong University (LZJTU) welcomes all related institutions to recommend outstanding students and Chinese teachers to study at here.

I. ELIGIBILITY

1. Be a Non-Chinese citizen;

2. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of the Host Institution;

3. Be in good physical and mental health, be in good academic and behavioral standing;

4. Be interested in Chinese language education and related work;  

5. Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelors degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances.  

II. CATEGORIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

1. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education  

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of two academic years.

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

 

2. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education  

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of four academic years.

Applicants shall hold a senior high school diploma and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

 

3. Scholarship for One-Year Study Program 

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of eleven months.

Applicants of international Chinese language education programs shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

Applicants of Chinese language and literature program shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

Applicants of Chinese language study programs shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3), and priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

 

4. Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program

The program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of five months. Applicants of international Chinese language education and Chinese language and literature programs shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required. Applicants of Taiji culture programs are required to provide HSK test scores, and priority will be given to those who also provide an HSKK test score.

 

5. Scholarship for Four-Week Study Program

The program commences either in July or December 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of four weeks.

Applicants of Chinese language study and Taiji culture are required to provide an HSK test score. The program may be organized and applied for by a Recommending Institution with 10-15 participants per group.

Before the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with the Host Institution(s) and such plan shall be submitted to CLEC for review and approval.

III. COVERAGE AND STANDARD

1. The scholarship supports tuition, campus accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance (CNY 400 per semester);

2. Living Allowance:

  Master’s students: CNY 3,000 per month;

  Undergraduates/one-year study program students/one-semester study program students: CNY 2,500 per month.

IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Online registration will be available from 22 February, 2025 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login). At the same time, applicants need to complete online application on Lanzhou Jiaotong University International Student Online Application Platform (https://lzjtu.17gz.org/). Application steps are as follows:

 

1.International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Application Website

Log on to the scholarship website http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login to register an account, upload application materials and submit online. Please refer to Appendix 1 for application instructions.

 

2. Lanzhou Jiaotong University International Student Online Application Platform

Log on to the scholarship website https://lzjtu.17gz.org/ to register an account, upload application materials and submit online. Please refer to Appendix 2 for application instructions.

V. APPLICATION DEADLINES (BEIJING TIME)

1. For programs commencing in July, applicants must complete their

applications by April 15.

2. For programs commencing in September, applicants must complete their applications by May 15.

3. For programs commencing in December, applicants must complete their applications by September 15.

4. For programs commencing in March 2026, applicants must complete their applications by October 31.

VI. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS  

1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page;

2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK/HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);

3. A reference letter by the head of the Recommending Institution;

4. A certificate of the highest diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript;

5. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (please refer to Appendix 3). The original document, printed by Chinese quarantine authorities, shall be filled in in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Medical examination results are valid for only six months;

6. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application;

7. Applicants of the Scholarship for a Master’s Degree or a Bachelors Degree shall submit two reference letters from professors or associate professors or experts with equivalent professional titles in relevant fields. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect; 

8. A 3,000-word personal statement written in Chinese;

(NOTICE: Applicants for one-year, one-semester and four-week programs are required to provide the documents numbered 1-6 above. Masters degree and undergraduate degree applicants are require to provide the documents numbered 1-8.)

9. In-service Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment and a reference letter from the employer;

10. Applicants under 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

VII. POLICIES REGARDING IN-SERVICE CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE WINNERS

1. In-Service Chinese Language Teachers

In-service Chinese language teachers need to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.

2. Chinese Bridge Winners

Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

VIII. ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENT

(I) Check your Email or login on your LZJTU online application account to track your application status. Make sure your email address is correct and check your email occasionally, you will receive some important information, e.g. the arrangement of interview etc.

(II) The results will be announced about three months before the program starts.

(III) Successfully admitted candidates should confirm your offer through email within 10 working days. Log on the application system of LZJTU to pay for the registration fee 400 CNY online (The registration fee is not refundable). If candidates do not confirm or fail to pay the registration fee in time, the admission offer will be regarded invalid. 

(IV) Once payment is made, the E-version of The Admission Notice of LZJTU (in Chinese & English)  will be sent by Email in 15-20 working days. The admission notice shall be downloaded, printed and signed by candidates themselves. Visit https://www.studyinchina.edu.cn and enter personal information to download the E-version of The Visa Application Form (JW202).

(V) All of the admitted students should register within the time limit specified in The Admission Notice. Original application documents are required for freshman registration. The admission offer will be regarded invalid if students fail to register two weeks beyond the required enrollment period.

(VI) Once any of the application documents is discovered fake or forged, or anyone fails the physical reexamination, his/her admission offer will be regarded invalid.

(VII) Students who withdraw from school before completing the program, fail to register at the university without prior permission, or suspend their studies will be disqualified for the scholarship.

IX. Annual Review

There is a comprehensive evaluation of the CIS scholarship students’ academic and daily performances in each academic year. Those who pass the annual review can continue to enjoy the next year's scholarship. Those who fail to pass the review or fail to participate in the annual review in time will have their scholarship eligibility suspended or canceled. Students whose scholarship status has been suspended or canceled can continue their studies at their own expenses.
